Not Rayellen's Favorite!

Image
So the big stop of Day 2 was Kinzua Skywalk .  The building pays homage to the viaduct. A good view of the Skywalk: It was covered in snow! Finally getting to the end: And then I cleared off the snow -- or at least enough of it to get a really cool view. (NOT Rayellen's favorite place to visit. It's okay -- there'll be someplace fun for her!) Standing on the glass. How cool! (Don't worry, Raya! There's comfy benches for you while the non-acrophobics go out and taunt gravity) Close your eyes, Raya -- Granny is about to peek over the edge! Check out the debris field. That tornado did a number on the bridge. And straight down into the debris field: Turning around to go back, let's get a better look at that glass floor: Selfie at the top: Peering down between the railroad ties: I even walked on the ties for a while, but decided not to overdo it lest I slip in the snow and hurt myself. Looking down between the ties: Look at how cool the snow looks on the wood g

The Next Morning's Drive

Image
Today's post isn't a huge adventure; it's just the drive to Kinzua Skywalk . I got to the campsite after dark so I just pitched the tent rather than wrestle with the hammock and tarps in the cold dark. It was dark and first-come-first serve so I just plunked myself at the first available site. I think it was this one . Look at the snow! That's what I was camping in the night before.  I stopped at this weird historical site . It was some sort of power plant. I didn't go inside; I just gawked at the outside. The barrel looked pretty cool. Close to Kinzua State Park was a railroad crossing where people have to be told to LOOK and not just drive in front of a train. Next post will be Kinzua Skywalk!

Swinging Bridge/Ghost Town

Image
The second adventure of my first day was more intriguing. I wanted to check out the Little Toby Swinging Bridge and, supposedly, a ghost town. It was hard to figure out where to go. After a bit of struggling to find a landmark I could put in my GPS I settled on Frank Varischetti Field in Grampian, Pa. This is where it took me: In other words, with no idea where I was going.  There seemed to be a road heading in the right direction, but there was this: That couldn't be right? Could it? I took a wild guess about what might be the right direction and headed back the way I came. But within a block I spotted a pedestrian who gave me directions. Here's what happened when I followed his instructions: There was a road that said it went to the boat ramp -- which was where parking should be -- but it went uphill away from the creek. I took the road that went to the creek and found a dead end by a cabin. I went to the cabin, which turned out to be a hunting cabin and reminded me of the

Bilger's Rocks

Here's a place I checked out on the way to Ashville that I want to take you girls to see: Bilger's Rocks .   As you can see from the map, it's located pretty much due north of us less than an hour and a half. That makes it an easy day trip. But there's something really cool: There's camping there ! The carved tree made me think of the carvings I saw so often in Korea. There's also some sort of stage there for activities. We can look into it more when we get back together. Here's a camping spot. You can see the picnic table. There are plenty of suitable hammock trees and plenty of room to pitch a tent. Here's the first cool thing: Rock House. The sign says "In Honor of Roland Welker Alone Season #7 Winner; 100 Day King. Here's a video look. Pretty cool, huh? The next video was too big to upload on Blogger so I put it on YouTube: The trails are easy and beautiful: Then there's a beautiful quiet little creek: The lovely scenery: More beautiful
